Within the Prayer and Liturgy Directory, common prayers to know for each key phase are listed.
Knowing common prayers is an essential part of a child’s spiritual formation in a Catholic school. Prayer is not simply a routine but a way of strengthening a personal relationship with God. Learning traditional prayers gives children the language, confidence, and structures they need to participate fully in the prayer life of the Church.

Common prayers also provide reassurance during moments of difficulty, stillness or reflection.
Children learn that prayer can offer:
- comfort in times of worry
- gratitude in times of joy
- guidance when discerning choices
- a sense of peace and stillness
Because the prayers are familiar, children can return to them throughout life, even into adulthood.

We have created prayer booklets for each phase to access, experience and learn. The booklets can be found on this page and within classrooms on their prayer table or RE display.
