St. Peter, originally named Simon, was a fisherman who was called by Jesus to follow Him and become a 'fisher of men' (Matthew 4:19). He was one of Jesus’ closest disciples and witnessed many of His miracles and teachings. Peter is known for his passionate faith, but also for his human weaknesses – most famously, when he denied Jesus three times. Despite this, Peter was forgiven by Jesus after His resurrection and became the rock upon which the Church was built, receiving the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven (Matthew 16:18-19).
At St. Peter’s, this charism shapes our identity and mission. Like St. Peter, we aim to build a community that is founded on love, truth, and discipleship. We recognise that Peter was not perfect; he made mistakes, learnt from them and grew into the leader Christ called him to be. His journey reflects the journey we hope for our pupils – one in which each child is supported, encouraged, and valued as they grow into the person God created them to be.
We asked our children and staff for words to describe Saint Peter:

Loving God,
We thank You for giving us Peter as our school saint.
We are grateful for his courage, his faith, and the way he followed Jesus.
Help us to be like St Peter:
Loyal when things are difficult,
Trustworthy in what we say and do,
Reflective when we make mistakes,
and always ready to learn and grow.
Make us kind, strong, and reliable friends to others.
Help us to be disciple‑hearted—
committed, caring, and willing to lead when You call us.
Just as St Peter became a rock for the Church,
guide us to be an inspirational presence for those around us.
May we follow his example of being a guide,
a fisherman of hope,
and a leader who listens to Your voice.
St. Peter, thank you for watching over our school.
Help us to grow into the people God created us to be.
Amen
