Key Holders

At St. Peter’s Catholic Primary School, our Key Holders play a vital role in living out our Catholic life and mission. Rooted in the teachings of St. Peter, they lead by example, demonstrating faith in action and inspire their peers to make our school an inspiring, welcoming place for everyone.

How are Key Holders Chosen?

Our Key Holders are selected for their outstanding commitment to our school’s values and the qualities that St Peter himself reflected. Key Holders apply to be on the team and are voted for by their class peers. Our Key Holders demonstrate qualities that show they can:

  • Represent and include others.
  • Contribute positively to school life.
  • Act responsibly in a fair and just way.

“A good school councillor is someone who listens well, shares ideas, helps others, is kind and fair, and wants to make our school even better.” Evie - Year 6

Key Holders are guided by St. Peter to reflect the love of Christ through their words, actions, and dedication to our school community. They are inspired by the teachings of Saint Peter and are proud to be part of St. Peter’s School.

Qualities of Saint Peter that apply to us:

  • He is reliable
  • He is a key holder
  • He is a leader
  • He is a follower of Jesus
  • He is trustworthy

What Do Key Holders Do?

Our Key Holders attend meetings each term and act as a representative and pupil voice for their class. They are expected to:

  • Take ideas and suggestions from their class to discuss at the meeting that reflects our vision and values.
  • Bring back ideas, information and suggestions to their class to listen, discuss, share their views and, where necessary, vote on actions that need to be taken.
  • Help to organise and assist at different school events throughout the year.
  • Encourage the pupils in their class to be aware of their school environment and to respect and care for it.

The Key Holder Rules are as follows:

All Key Holders must:

  • Model St. Peter’s School values.
  • Be respectful and listen to others.
  • Contribute or participate actively in meetings.
  • Follow the school rules and be role models to other pupils.
  • Always model exceptional behaviour.
  • Be polite and courteous to others.
  • Attend fortnightly meetings.
  • Use their position as Key Holder to support and develop St. Peter’s school community.
  • Feedback to peers after meetings.
